What’s an ‘EPEL repository’?

EPEL (Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux) repository is an additional repository package required by some software, it is an easy tool and repository that help to install commonly used software.

The EPEL repository can be used on:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

  • CentOS

  • Oracle Linux

Installing EPEL on CentOS via yum

Installing EPEL on CentOS via yum is quickest and easy way, CentOS already have the extra repo that helps in better management, EPEL can be installed with simple command.

yum install epel-release

Its really that simple, iF it not work on your system try these steps

Installing EPEL on RHEL/Fedora/CentOS/etc Mannually

Open Temp folder by the cd command

cd /tmp

Now Install by this simple command

yum install ./epel-release-latest-*.noarch.rpm

Note: in each file you should name

epel-release-latest-*.noarch.rpm

accordingly, in * you shoukd replace it with 5,6,7 versions you downloaded.
